Our staff has over 50 years of combined swim coaching experience and knowledge. Their intent is to provide the coaching, facilities, and atmosphere that allow swimmers, novice to Olympian, to realize their dreams and aspirations. We hope that this experience then carries over into other facets of their lives.

children swimming for FWA and returns for her 9th year with FWA. She works with
our pre-competition swimmers, and prepares them for their first competitions.

Training Groups (back
to top)
Age Group Bronze (6yrs and under)
1 hour practices Tuesdays and Saturdays @ Legion Pool
All swimmers new to competitive swimming spend one or more seasons in this group
-- to learn the basics of competitive swimming, including practice routines,
starts and turns. Swimmers interested in swimming for exercise rather than competition
are also in this group. Pre-competitive swimmers learn the four competitive
strokes. Swimmers should attend 1 to 2 practices per week.
Age Group Silver (7yrs - 10 yrs)
1 hour practices Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday @ Legion Pool
These swimmers have some proficiency in the four competitive strokes and are
interested in competing in meets. Swimmers continue to work on the basics to
perform the strokes as well as perfecting racing dives and legal turns. Swimmers
are expected to be attentive and will be introduced to the discipline necessary
to reach their potential in competitive swimming with a modest training schedule.
These swimmers should attend 2 to 4 practices a week.
Age Group Gold (10yrs - 13yrs)
1.5 hour practices (plus dryland as scheduled)Monday thru Saturday
@ Legion Pool and HPB Natatorium
While continuing to develop their strokes and conditioning, these swimmers will
receive interval training that is designed to develop endurance, speed, and
a sense of pace. A strong emphasis still remains on teaching the strokes as
well as the dive and turn techniques necessary to compete. Practice duration
will increase to 1.5 hours requiring a stronger commitment on the swimmer's
part to focus on improving their swimming skills during the entire practice.
At this level, 4 to 6practices per week are recommended.
Seniors/National Team -- (13 years & up)
2 hour practices Monday thru Saturday (plus dryland practice as scheduled
and seasonal "2-a-days") @ Legion Pool and HPB Natatorium
Heavy emphasis is placed on stroke technique and endurance. Seniors are those
swimmers that will be participating on their high school teams. They can sign
up for any session(s) that fit their needs and schedule. National Team swimmers
are preparing to compete in college and international competition. As such,
they are expected to attend all scheduled practices.
